Mayorship 1995 – 2012

Mayor Jamal Ali Al-Temeiza was born on April 21, 1956, in the town of IDNA, northwest of Hebron. He was named after the Arab nationalist leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, a reflection of the era's spirit. He grew up in a deeply rooted Palestinian household, developing an early love for his homeland.

Jamal joined the Fatah movement in his youth, becoming one of its prominent figures in IDNA and the Hebron governorate. In the early 1980s, he became active in the Popular Committees. His commitment was not symbolic — he was detained and imprisoned multiple times, including administrative detention in 1988 and 1989, yet remained steadfast.

Elected Mayor of IDNA in 1995, he served for 17 years until 2012, leading an unprecedented renaissance in the town. He also chaired the Joint Services Council for Northern Hebron. Throughout, he championed the cause of Palestinian prisoners, worked tirelessly for national unity, and served as a mediator and peacemaker in community disputes.

His most lasting personal contribution was building the Jamal Ali Elementary School from his own funds — land and construction — and donating it to the Ministry of Education. He is survived by his wife and ten children. He passed away from a sudden heart attack on August 6, 2025, just one hour after attending a ceremony to honor graduating high school students — his last act of giving.

IDNA Panoramic View

IDHNA is a Palestinian town located approximately 12 km northwest of the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank. The town's name derives from the Canaanite word "Ashna", meaning strong and resilient — a fitting description for a community that has endured centuries of history.

Archaeological findings in surrounding areas reveal layers of Canaanite, Hebrew, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic civilizations, including ancient coins, oil presses, pottery lamps, and burial sites.

Today, IDNA is home to approximately 20,000 residents. The town faces severe land constraints as Israeli occupation has confiscated over 50% of its territory. The local economy revolves around olive cultivation and agriculture, and the town hosts a vibrant commercial sector.

IDNA sits at an elevation of 400–480 meters above sea level and is known for its moderate Mediterranean climate. It has a strong tradition of national resistance and community solidarity, exemplified by leaders like Mayor Jamal Ali Temeiza.
